Less high tech types of pond water heaters are available which cost less money than compact systems. For example, an oil-filled radiator pond heater can be placed under the pond over. If you decide to use this type of pond water heater system, make sure that the radiator is in a secure, level place and adjust the temperature accordingly.
Pond Heater Temperatures

No matter what kind of pond water heater that you choose, the goal is to maintain the pond water temperature at about forty degrees. Maintain the temperature at precisely between thirty-nine and forty-two degrees for the safety of your fish and aquatic plants.

Pond Heaters Maintain Water Temperature

It is important to pay a very close attention to the temperature of the water in your garden pond as seasons shift and change, particularly during the fall and winter seasons. Spring can also be a season where temperatures vary greatly, so check the temperature of your garden pond regularly.

Failing to check the temperature of the pond water and allow active bacteria and parasites to develop once the temperature of the water reaches fifty degrees. If this happens, once the water temperature ratchets up to sixty degrees, the fish in your pond will have damage to their immune system and be prone to illness and disease.

No matter what type of pond heater you use, the pond temperature should remain in the vicinity of about 40 degrees (39-42 degrees is the acceptable range.) Pay close attention to the temperature of your pond water as the seasons change. If you do not, once the water approaches 50 degrees parasites and active bacteria have already begun to grow. If the water gets up to 60 degrees, your fish will no longer have immune systems. If the springtime is long and the weather unpredictable, you must keep constant watch over the temperature of your outdoor pond or garden pond.
